Online puppy training for the first few weeks at home

PUPPY Jumpstart

Puppy Jumpstart course by The Dog Log

Got a new puppy?

Simple puppy training you can start from day one.

Bringing home a puppy is exciting. It can also be a slightly chaotic mix of biting, zoomies, harness battles and wondering what on earth you should actually be teaching them.

Puppy Jumpstart is a self-guided online course for puppies from 8 weeks to 6 months, giving you five useful behaviours to start working on together from the day they come home.

Each behaviour is broken down into short, easy-to-follow videos, so you can practise little and often at home and start building useful skills straight away.

Make those early weeks count

You don’t need to wait for puppy classes to start training.

Those first weeks at home are full of opportunities for your puppy to learn, whether you’re intentionally teaching them or not.

Puppy Jumpstart gives you a clear place to begin.

Rather than overwhelming you with everything your puppy could possibly learn, we’ve chosen five practical behaviours that help with everyday puppy life while building useful foundations for future training.

Five behaviours. Short video lessons. Plenty to practise together.

What you’ll work on

Puppy Jumpstart course ready steady get it

Ready, Steady, Get It

Turn play into something useful.

You’ll teach your puppy to chase and play with appropriate toys and to let go without having things wrestled from their mouth. You’ll also start building toy play into something that can become a valuable reward in future training.

Puppy Jumpstart Course Boop module

Boop

A simple hand target with a surprising number of uses.

Your puppy learns to touch their nose to your hand, giving them something else to do around hands besides bite them. It can also become a handy way to guide your puppy towards you, into their crate or wherever you need them to go.

Puppy Jumpstart Course Get Dressed

Get Dressed

Help your puppy feel comfortable with their collar or harness.

By breaking the process down into small steps, you can teach your puppy what to expect rather than letting getting dressed turn into a daily game of running away, wriggling and biting.

Puppy Jumpstart course follow the feast

Follow the Feast

Teach your puppy that following you is a very good idea.

Using something they’re already motivated by – their food. You’ll start building the foundations of following you and staying connected when there are other things competing for their attention.

Puppy Jumpstart course ping pong module

Ping Pong

Put those puppy zoomies to work.

This fun game begins building the foundations of recall, teaching your puppy that running towards their people is worth their while, ready for when they’re able to start exploring more of the big wide world.
